Finding Your Voice: From Trauma to Leadership
Back in 2012, just before his passing, an elder entrusted me with a mission that seemed cryptic at the time:
"Determination through the Mountains, Leadership through the Sweetgrass, Caring & Sharing with the Buffalo and Truth through the Trees"; It took years for me to truly understand the depth of those words.
In 2014, I faced a traumatic experience that shook me to my core. Fleeing to Canada in an attempt to escape, I believed I could leave it all behind. But as you know, such wounds never truly heal on their own. It wasn't until 2020, after returning to the UK, that I found the courage to file formal charges and confront the pain head-on. The journey through the legal system was arduous and disheartening, but I persisted, knowing that my voice represented millions of women worldwide who had faced similar injustices.
The metaphor of mountains resonates deeply with me, symbolizing resilience, strength, and endurance. Like mountains shaping landscapes, strong women shape society and inspire others with their presence and actions. Each challenge I faced was an opportunity for growth and discovery, making me stronger and more determined to create positive change.
Today, I stand proud of the path I've walked. I've built a successful business with a team of sixteen dedicated individuals. Our mission is to provide funding opportunities for women experiencing abuse, empowering them to reclaim their lives and start anew.
As I continue on this journey, I carry your love in my heart and strive to honour the legacy of resilience and strength that you've instilled in me.
